COLUMBUS – A weekend massage therapy class will start on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at Isothermal Community College’s Polk Center in Columbus.
The college has been providing day and evening training for nearly a decade, but – as a result of community demand – this is the first time it will be offered on weekends.The classes will be on three Saturdays and Sundays each month from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with an hour break for lunch. Scholarships are available.
The year-long program combines class time with hands-on practice of massage techniques. Coursework includes anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, business practices, ethics and specific massage modalities. Upon completion graduates of the program may apply for the MBLex exam to practice therapeutic massage in the state of North Carolina.Massage therapists can work in a variety of settings from private offices to spas and hospitals to fitness centers. The occupation is growing fast and can be a great way for an entrepreneur to get started as a business owner.
