Pirulos has made it’s home in the shopping center on Main Street in Spindale where if I remember correctly, Hickory Log BBQ was once formerly located. And yes, the train track still runs overhead. Reading the menu (descriptions are in both Spanish and English) you might think “another Mexican restaurant,” but don’t miss out on the adventure of exploring new Honduran flavors, special dishes, and sharing among friends.
Honduran cuisine is a fusion of Central American, Spanish, Caribbean and African cuisines. The dishes include breakfast items like my baleada containing scrambled eggs, creama, and slices of avocados. Among the soups was mondongo soup (tripe soup). I reserved that for another visit.
My companion’s salad was partly cabbage based, but not sweet like coleslaw. It was crisp, fresh and delicious. And they sell Mexican Coke. Mexican Coke uses natural cane sugar, and even if it has the same number of calories and really isn’t healthier than high fructose corn syrup — in my opinion it just tastes better!
The food was good and plentiful. Our pictures and video are on Facebook and we will update when Facebook is again operational.
Try it out for something different.
