Mike Hanson, age 55, of Ellenboro was born May 12, 1965 in Lawton, Oklahoma and passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at his residence.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Wise Hanson, brothers Walter Joseph Hanson and Jeffrey Lynn Hanson.

Mike is survived by his cherished wife, Angela Owens Hanson; four daughters, Brandy Michele Hanson (Ryan Morgan) of Hendersonville, Tiffany Vibbert (Brian) of Forest City, Courtney Hanson of Ellenboro and Megan Dorsey (Ron) of Shelby; son, Tyler Bowen of Shelby; five granddaughters, Madison Morrow,  Alexus Wilkins, Isabella Holland, Harper Kelly and Oaklynn Vibbert; one grandson Lincoln Dorsey; sister, Sandra Ruppe of Ellenboro NC; father and mother-in-law, Roger and Katherine Owens of Shelby. He is also survived by his lifelong hunting and fishing buddy and best friend Tommy Turner.

Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and loved his family and Jesus. He loved to hunt, fish and travel.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020 at Cool Springs Cemetery with the Reverend Bill Jones officiating.

Anthony “Tony” Carr, age 50, of Bostic, NC, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby.

Tony was born May 15, 1970 in Dunedin, Florida to Robert Carr and Cathy Harris Carr who reside in Bostic. He attended Gulf High School and graduated from Marchman Technical College in Pasco County, Florida. He was an electrician by trade and most recently worked as a Superintendent for Carolina Power. Tony was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, surfing and many other outdoor activities. He also enjoyed spending time with his fur buddy, Audi.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Carr and Gary Carr.

In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory include two sisters, Debora Cale (Robert) of Elk Grove, California and Kristen Henry (Peter) of Boiling Springs, NC; brother, Jack Carr (Julie) of Fairview, NC and several nieces and nephews which includes a special nephew, Dillon Carr of Mooresboro.

No formal services will be conducted, but a private time of remembrance will be held for family only.

Steve Vernard Wallace of Rutherfordton, passed away on June 15, 2020.  He was born on July 11, 1949 to the late Guy Alonzo Wallace and Bertha Lail Wallace.  Steve was a Veteran of the US Army.  He was also a loving father and grandfather.  He loved to fish, spend time with his family and his favorite companion, his dog Angel.  Steve was a member of Disabled American Veterans of Rutherford County.

Left to cherish his memory are his three children; Todd Wallace and wife Janet of Forest City, Vicki Boggs and husband Tim of Mooresboro, and Billy Wallace and wife Tawana of Rutherfordton; nine grand kids, Tyler Wallace and wife Jessica, Haley Owens and husband Dylan, Brooklyn Wallace, Brandy Wallace, Robert Wallace and wife Sonja, Kimberly Wallace, Lexi Wallace, Bryson Wallace, and Braylan Wallace.  He also leaves behind eight great grandchildren.

A graveside service with full Military Honors will be held on Friday June 19, 2020 at 1PM, Pisgah United Methodist Church, 4344 US 64 Hwy, Rutherfordton, NC 28139 with the Rev. Blennie Heaslip (Bee), age 101, of Spindale, went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 15, 2020. She was born to the late Dana and Blennie Woodcock and was raised by her aunt and uncle, Gertrude and Ted Roberts.

Blennie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and siblings Azel Woodcock, Roland Woodcock, Sarah Foster and Reva Harper.

Blennie is survived by her daughter, Gail Wisnoski (Richard) of Arizona; sons Richard Heaslip (Margie) of Pennsylvania, and William Heaslip of North Carolina. In addition to her children, she leaves six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

After high school, Blennie graduated from Excelsior School of Business and always worked as a secretary, retiring as secretary to the district manager of Kroeger, Melbourne, FL.

A Memorial service will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Crowe’s Funeral Chapel, 118 College Ave. Rutherfordton, NC 28139.

Jack Sterling Grimsley, 94, of Lake Lure, NC passed away on June 15, 2020.  He was the son of the late Hazel and Lina Ledbetter Grimsley.  Jack was married to the late Evelyn McKinney Grimsley for fifty-four years.

He was proud to have served in the Navy for twenty years also serving in World War II.  Jack was one of nine children in which all four of his brothers also served in the military.  Jack was also active with the VFW and was a Mason.  He grew up in Mayfield Georgia and attended Horeb Baptist Church, established in 1792.  He looked forward to attending homecoming every year in September.  Jack was also known for publishing several books about his family memories.  He was also a sponsor for the Western Little League Girls Softball League in Warner Robins Georgia.

Left to cherish Jack’s memory are his step daughter Saundra Nelson and husband Carl of Lake Lure, NC; step grandchildren, Shawn Troy Culbreth of Thomasville, GA, Christopher Scott Culbreth of St. Mary’s, GA, and Danny William Nelson of Panama City Beach, FL; step great grandson, Joshua Aaron Culbreth of Monroe WA., and a special nephew Brian Jones of Macon, GA.  The family would like to thank Lisa Baynard of Comfort Keepers in Tryon, NC for her excellent care that she provided for Jack.
