Harold H. Ruppe
March 27, 1921 ~ December 27, 2019 (age 98)

Harold H. Ruppe, age 98, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Friday, December 27, 2019, at Holly Springs Senior Citizens Home.

He was the son of the late Hudson Ruppe and the late Alice Ruppe. Harold was a native of Rutherford County and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served as a former Deacon. He loved farming and he enjoyed working on antique cars. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Harold was assigned for duty to battery D, 950th anti-aircraft artillery battalion as a gunner on multiple quad 50 caliber machine guns. He served in Guadalcanal, New Guinea, Southern Pacific, Western Pacific and Philippine Islands. Harold was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for a wound he received in combat. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by one brother, RN Ruppe, and one son, Philip Ruppe.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years: Hovis Robbins Ruppe.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, Monday, December 30, 2019 at Shiloh Baptist Church. A graveside service will be at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 30, 2019 with Reverend Paul Willis and Reverend Michael Sepaugh officiating. Interment will be at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills; P.O. Box 336, Forest City, 28043. McMahan’s Funeral Home & Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.


Mr. James Reginald  “Reggie” McDaniel, 75, of Ellenboro, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2019.

He was born on December 21, 1944 in Rutherford County. He was a son of the late James Paul McDaniel and Doris Jernigan McDaniel. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Paul McDaniel. Reggie proudly and honorably served two tours of duty with the US Army, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He worked for over 30 years as warehouse manager for Shuford Manufacturing in Hickory.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Bryant McDaniel; his daughter, Lisa Leighann McDaniel and her husband Keith, of Ellenboro; his 5 sisters, Dee Hardin and husband Glen, Cora Willis and husband Dennis, all of Ellenboro, Nancy Jackson and husband Franklin, and Joanne Goforth, all of Bostic, and Teresa Ledbetter and husband Roger, of Cliffside; his grandchildren, Genessa McDaniel and Madison McDaniel; his sister-in-law Ellen McDaniel of Spindale; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Clement “Clem” Reynolds, age 93, of Forest City, NC, died Wednesday, December 25, 2019, at Henderson Care Center.

He was the son of the late Austin Reynolds and the late Mable Reynolds. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Eulie Reynolds Buff and Rachel Crow.

Clem was a native of Lincoln County NC. He was a member of Bat Cave Baptist Church and a US Army veteran of World War II. He loved his family and his Lord. His life was his family and his church. Clem also loved to do Mission Work.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years Betty Herrin Reynolds.

One Daughter: Marsha Bridges and her husband Jack of Rutherfordton

One Son: Lonnie Reynolds and his wife Connie of Batavia, IL

Three Grandchildren: Ryan Reynolds and his wife Michelle, Matthew Reynolds and his wife Jessica, Jackie Bridges III

Four Great-grandchildren: Kelcey Bridges, Grantt Bridges, Owyn Reynolds and Talia Reynolds.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 29, 2019 in the Gilkey United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Gilkey United Methodist Church with Reverend Jack Bridges and Reverend David MacEachern officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills P.O. Box 336 Forest City, NC 28043 or Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.

Herman Eplee, age 81, of Ellenboro, NC passed away on December 23rd at his home. Herman was the son of the late Alonzo Albert and Margaret Whiteside Eplee. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Shirley Ables Eplee; daughters Joyce Tallent (Kenny), Sarah Whitlock (Barry), Clara Hauser (Blair), and Kathy Phillips (Kenny); grandchildren Matthew, Karah, Taylor, Brooke (Cody), Haylee, Ashley, Danielle, Shelly and KJ; Great Grandchildren Jenny, Colton, Zoey, Payton, Blayden, Malia, and Mason; Siblings Edward Eplee, Bernice Weaver (Gene), Donnie Eplee (Trisha), and Lois Lindsay (Ray);  and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Roy Eplee, and Lucille Martin.
