Ryan “Chad” Melton, age 43, of Gastonia, NC, passed away Friday, November 13, 2020 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

Chad was born on November 13, 1977 in Rutherford County to Reverend Alvin Melton, Jr. who resides in Gastonia and the late Vicky Melton.  He had a passion for music, sports, and fishing.  Chad was known for his jovial personality and was always laughing and joking. He always knew how to lighten the moment. More than anything, Chad loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Travis Melton.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Kaylee Melton and Corry Melton; father, Rev. Alvin Melton Jr. (Pat); brother, Alan Melton (Crystal) and sister, Angela Burgess (Bobby) all of Gastonia. He is also survived by a host of extended family members.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Phillip Kiser officiating.  Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Marvin Dewitt Silver, Jr., age 54, of Forest City, NC, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020 at his residence.

Marvin was born on July 9, 1966 in Rutherford County to the late Marvin Dewitt Silver, Sr. and Sylvia “Pat” Church Silver.  Marvin liked tinkering with motorcycles, he loved his dog, Boo-Boo and he was so proud of his two girls.

Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Whitney Hollifield (Stephen) of Concord, NC and Brittney Splawn (Joseph) of Denver, Colorado; and a special friend of the family Mary Bobek.

A private inurnment will take place on a later date at Goodes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Willie Lee Hodge age 84 of Rutherfordton, NC passed away on November 15th at his home.  Willie was the son of the late Marie Effie Flynn Hodge, and Sidney Breymon Hodge. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Ruthie Hodge; children Timothy Hodge, Randy Hodge, and Debra Hodge Hedgecock; grandchildren Jeni Hodge, Steven Hodge, Amy Hodge Whinsant, Alexander Hodge, Maegan Hedgecock Thomas, and Sarah Hedgecock; Great grandchildren Allison, Marley, Al, and Sincere; In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Esther Hodge.

Willie (Bill) Lee Hodge was a devoted father and husband always. Over his life he was a NCSU graduate, chemist, Boy Scout Troop master, Sunday School Teacher, choir director, entrepreneur, and Treatment System supervisor.  He was a man that loved nature. He loved the smell of dirt being plowed over and watching things grow, including his kids.  He was faithful to attend all the little things like our sporting events as well as the big days in our lives. Foremost though, he followed his heart, and his heart followed God.  He was a positive influence on many people in both NC and SC. Those that he helped guide, support, encouraged, or provided for often refer to him as “Mr. Willie.”

A memorial service will be held on Thursday November 19th 2020 at 1:00 PM, with the Rev. Ad Hooper officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.crowemortuary.com.

Mary Pauline “Dot” Justice, age 87, of Forest City, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Fairhaven of Forest City.

        Dot was born July 7, 1933 in Swain County to the late Tollie Dills and Martha Elizabeth Frady Dills.  Dot was a faithful member of Trinity Wesleyan Church. She was a graduate of Rutherford Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1955 and was the recipient of a prestigious Nursing Award for excellent bedside manner.  Dot worked for Parton’s Nursing Home and Rutherford Hospital for several years.  She owned and operated the Justice Daycare for more than twenty-five years and to this day, the “Justice Kids” remember the love and care that she gave to each one. She will forever be known as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-four years, Millard F. Justice,; four brothers, Vincent, Wade, Henry and Fred Dills; four sisters, Thelma Price, Wilma Moffit, Rosie Cabe and Nan Reed.

     Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter Cyndi Justice of Bridgewater, VA; two sons, Tony Justice (Theresa) of Union Mills, Charles Justice (Cheryl) of Forest City; two grandsons, Bryan Justice of Union Mills, Jordan Justice (Taylor) of Boiling Springs, SC; sister, Flonnie Jolley of Bostic.

     The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ken Linder officiating.  Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Barbara Ann “Annie” Blackwell, age 81 passed away Friday, November 13, 2020 at Accordius Health at Rutherford, formerly White Oak Nursing Center. A native of Rutherford County, Annie was a retired C.N.A. and enjoyed many activities during her stay at White Oak especially bingo.

Left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Tina Lail and husband John; one son, Gene Blackwell and wife Amy; five grandchildren, Ryan, Cameron, Savannah, Warren and Keri. She is also survived by four great grandchildren; Maddox, Mallory, Aaron and Kahlan and a number of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother Gertie Sims, step father LeRoy Sims who raised her and her father Charles Hodge.

Graveside services will be held 3 PM, Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O. Cecile Marie Johnson Price, lovingly known as Susie, 81, of Springfield, VA passed away on November 11, 2020.  She was the daughter of the late Hubert and Clarice Mills Johnson of Rutherfordton, NC; and was preceded in death by her late husband George Howard Connor.  Susie was a dedicated member of Capital Baptist Church.  She worked as a daycare provider in her home for thirty years, providing a second family for many children and prior to that worked at Cameron Station PX. Susie loved the Lord and was a dedicated servant of the Kingdom, bringing many to Jesus.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of twenty five years John Price; children Vickie Connor (Jeff), Randy Connor (Shannon), Ronald Connor (Tina), Tammy Crook; grandchildren Carrie Blevins (Jeremy), Nicole Newnam (John), Randy Connor, Ronald Connor, Georgia Connor, Joshua Connor, Dale Crook, Danny Crook, Shondra Jarratt, and Andrew Connor; great – grandchildren Danielle, Hailey, Ashton, Jasiah, Avery, Alyssa, Ryder, Elana, Abigail, Marcus, Jack, Charlie, and Juddah. She also leaves behind her loving sisters Shirley Scruggs, Mary Toms, Retha Goforth and Wanda Butler (Steve). Susie left a legacy of love that will not perish, yet will continue to honor all she built.

A funeral service and burial will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2020 1:00pm at Glenwood Baptist Church, 461 Bostic Sunshine Hwy, Bostic NC 28018.

Dickie Williams, age 74, of Bostic, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at his residence.

Dickie was born June 25, 1946 in Washington County, Tennessee to the late William Edward Williams and Roxie Ruth Adams Williams. He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War.  Dickie also served as a deputy sheriff in Virginia for several years and was a long-haul truck driver most of his life. He was an avid dirt track racing fan and was a driver at the Harris Speedway.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Williams.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Abrilla Roque Williams of the Philippines; ex-wife, Diane Williams of Bostic; a God-son, Tyler Waterfield of Virginia; three nephews, Keith Williams (Linda), Larry Williams and Lee Williams; sister-in-law, Mary Williams and a host of good friends.

Dickie will be buried at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain at 10:00 am on Friday, November 20, 2020. The Rutherford County Honor Guard will provide military honors.
