George William Melton, Sr. “Dub”, age 79 formerly of Rutherfordton, NC went home to be with The Lord on Saturday, November 2, 2019 . A native of Rutherford County he is the son of Everette Say Melton and Genie Murray Melton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Earl Melton, and two sisters, Grace Norville and Martha Toney. Mr. Melton retired in 1986 from Spindale Mills  where he worked as a supervisor in the weave room and was known to his co-workers as “Slim”

He is survived by his wife, Angelyn Flynn Melton; two sons, George William Melton, Jr. and his wife Bobbi, Perry Say Melton and his wife Betsy; four grandchildren, Samantha Smith (Jeremy), Adrienne Allen (Mark), Quinne Teske (Blake) and Ben Melton; five great grandchildren, one sister Wilma Robertson and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Adaville Baptist Church with a private burial at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Adaville Baptist Church and online condolences may be made at Crowe’s Mortuary is assisting the Melton Family.


Joan McSwain Dills, age 83, of Spindale passed away Friday while being cared for at the home of her daughter Marylon Ross. Joan was the widow of Loyd Dills, daughter of the late Guy McSwain and Dura Ellen Greene McSwain and was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Joan loved and cared for her family and leaves to cherish her memory a daughter Marylon Ross; grandchildren Tina Waters (Cindi Melton), Donald Ross (Keisha Harris) and Michael Waters (Sommar); great grandchildren Lucas Ross, Harley Upton and Kinley Waters; brother James (Rosanna) McSwain; sister-in-law Ruby Strader.

A private memorial service was held to celebrate Joan’s life.

Crowe’s Mortuary& Crematory is assisting the family.


Boiling Springs, SC – Allen Evans Atkinson, 73, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2019 at his home. He went to be with his Lord and his loved ones that were waiting for him with open arms. Allen was born on March 30, 1946 to the late James Oliver Atkinson and Iva Allen Atkinson.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son Jeffrey Scott Atkinson one brother Claude Atkinson, one sister Amanda Stancil and one brother-in-law James Elliott.

Left to cherish his memory is Jean McKinney one son James Allen Atkinson, one daughter Donna Lynn Thompson (Kent), three step-children Amanda Lee Bishop (Billy), Mike McKinney and Darrell McKinney, and one sister Peggie Atkinson Elliott and sister-in-law Sarah Atkinson. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Jamie Leanne Atkinson, Dylan Ward Atkinson, Evan Atkinson, Austin Atkinson, Alyson Thompson, Kayla Thompson and step-grandchildren Heaven Miller, Ella Bishop, Zane Bishop and Warren Bishop plus several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed but left us with many precious memories.

The visitation will be Monday, November 4, 2019 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church 1301 Mt. Pleasant Church Road, Mooresboro, NC 28114 from 12:30PM-2:00PM with the service starting at 2:00PM.

The Rev. Kevin Hamrick and Pastor Ken Hales will be officiating the service. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery following the service.

Allen was a veteran of the US Army and will receive military honors by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Arrangements are entrusted to Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside.
