Mr. Cecil Swink, 86, of Bostic, died Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Hospice of The Carolina Foothills, Forest City.

 Link “Spud” Ambrose Ravan, Jr. age 78, of Forest City, NC, died Thursday July 4, 2019 at his home.
Spud was born March 8, 1941 in Polk County, NC, to the late Link Ambrose Ravan, Sr. and Mamie Cantrell Ravan. He retired from Pike Electric as a lineman. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was proud to be an American.  Spud cherished his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.  He was an avid enthusiast of dirt track racing a faithful member of Harris First Baptist Church, and retired Captain of Polk County Rescue Squad.
 Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of fifty-two years, Linda Dedmon Ravan; two daughters, Tracy Waters (James “Tank”) of Tryon and Tammy Herrmann (Craig) of Forest City; grandchildren, Yancy Pace ( Quinton Price) of Mill Spring, Ezekiel Herrmann of Forest City; a great-grandchild, Keaton Price;  a sister, Jan Gustavel of San Diego, CA; and a host of  nieces and nephews. 
 Visitation will be held at Harrelson Funeral Home, Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at the Harris First Baptist Church with Reverend George Whitmire officiating.

Jerry A. Martin of Forest City passed away on July 4, 2019.  He was born August 16, 1940 to the late Logan and Maggie Martin in Spindale, NC. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Jerry Martin, Jr.

Jerry joined St. Paul AME Zion Church at an early age. He served in the church as a Sunday School Superintendent, and as a Pastor. He sang in the choir and was the kind of person who helped where needed. Jerry loved the Lord. He worked faithfully as a husband, father, brother and friend. He was a bus driver where he worked at East Rutherford High School for many years. The students that rode his bus said it best, “He was the best bus driver ever.” He retired from East in 2002 with many awards and achievements.

Jerry leaves behind his wife Carolyn of 24 years of marriage, and his first wife Minnie; his daughter, Marie Conley (Dean); his baby boy 1st Class Sgt Derrick Martin and his daughter Mechelle Henry Stevens; son Terry Martin, Jerry Jr.’s son, Jerry Freeman, a brother Herman Martin (Norma Jean). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, eight  great grandchildren and other family members.

A service is planned for Tuesday July 9, 2019 at Crowe’s Mortuary at 11AM.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Dennis Arthur Hoyle, 66, of Ellenboro, died Thursday, July 4, 2019 at his residence.

Dennis was the son of Beatrice McCurry Hoyle of Sunshine and the late Herman Hoyle. He was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church where he had served as Brotherhood leader. He was retired from UPS Freight and was an avid golfer.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lynda McNeilly Hoyle; his daughter, Jennifer Hoyle Powell and husband Paul, of Forest City; his brother, Randy Hoyle and wife Loretta, of Bostic; his granddaughters, Madalyn and Meredith Powell; his special family members, Bruce, Melanie, Zeke, and Avery Lynch of Ellenboro; and several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral will be conducted at 3:00 pm Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Big Springs Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Scott and Dr. Jim Richardson will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until 2:45 pm Sunday at the church fellowship hall prior to the service.
