ELLENBORO – Debra Lynn Hernandaz, 59, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at her residence. She is predeceased by her parents, George and Helen Brooks Thomas.

Debra leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband, Julio Hernandaz; son, Christopher George Mullinax; daughter, Mikisha Akers and husband, Angel Akers; nine grandchildren, Nevianna, Elijah, Jacob and Christina Mullinax, Brittany Trotter, Shannice Lopez Carrinza, Nina Lopez Carranza and Amaya Akers; brother, Jimmy Thomas and wife, Sandi of Cliffside, NC.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 17, 2019 at Robert Morgan Funeral and Cremation Service, LLC, 132 East College Avenue, Shelby, NC with Pastor Jose Espinal officitaing.

Mary Catherine Suttle Godfrey, “Cathy”  age 81 of Prince Street passed away at her home Saturday, June 15, 2019. A native of Rutherford County, she was a member of Main Street Baptist Church and was retired from The Tanner Company.

She is survived by her husband Harold “Pete” Godfrey; one daughter, Amy Godfrey Welch; two sons, Greg Godfrey, Harold “Pete” Godfrey, Jr. and wife Ann; grandchildren, Chase and Aaron Godfrey; great grandchildren, Alexis, Channing, Clay, and Corbyn Godfrey; one brother, Jerry Suttle; two sisters, Carlon Suttle Bailey, Connie Suttle Horne and husband Howard;  daughter in law, Shari Godfrey and a number of other relatives and friends.

Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Carl Suttle; mother, Venisha Suttle Ballard; step mother, Dora Humphries Suttle; one son, Anthony “Tony” Godfrey; and four brothers, Chivous, Richard, Timothy, and Thomas Carl Suttle, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Crowe’s Funeral Chapel, 118 College Ave., Rutherfordton, NC 28139. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Cathy will be laid to rest at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Avionna Chanel Evans, infant daughter of Shaquona Suber and Anthony Evans, Jr., went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby.
     In addition to her loving parents, those left to cherish her memory include three siblings, Anthony Evans-Murphy, Jr., Aceiyon Wilson Evans and Keymon Cole; maternal grandmother, Melissa Suber of Forest City; paternal grandparents, Tabiatha Murphy and Anthony Evans, Sr. both of Spartanburg, SC. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
     She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Curtis Flack.
     A family gathering to remember Avionna will be held on a later date.
     Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is providing the services for the family.

Betty Cain Funchess, age 79, of Forest City, NC, formerly of Carlsbad, New Mexico, went home to with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
    Betty was born February 28, 1940 to the late Jacob “Paul” Cain and Oma Viola Martin Cain. She was a graduate of Carlsbad High School, class of 1958 and a charter member of Faith Baptist Church. Betty was the heart of her family; she loved each one in her own special way. Throughout her life she was a dedicated and loving helpmate to her husband and a devoted mother to her sons. Her entire life was centered around her relationship with God and serving others. One of the many ways she expressed her love was through her cooking. From homemade mexican food, barbeque brisket, her infamous pudding cakes and fudge rings, even until a few days before her death, she found great delight in cooking for the enjoyment of others. She was also a skilled seamstress who loved sewing beautiful dresses for her granddaughters. Her life’s passion was that of reaching others with the Gospel. She had a great desire that everyone would accept Christ as their Savior.
     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Hearn and two special nephews, Kent Hearn, Rusty Cain and two great-grandchildren, Eleahleh Faith Reitz and Timothy J. Funchess.
     Those left to treasure her memory include her loving husband of fifty-nine years, Edward “Gene” Funchess; brother, Paul W. Cain and wife Dilys, who was the sister she never had, of Reno, NV; four sons, Tim Funchess (Elsa) of Carlsbad, NM, Lanny J. Funchess (Laura) of Cliffside, NC, Danny Funchess (Mary Ann) of Forest City, NC and Howard Funchess (Mandy) of Albuquerque, NM;. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Paul Funchess (Christie), Daniel Funchess, Jennifer Funchess, Hannah Reitz (Jacob), Kent Funchess, Autumn Dallas (Kenny), Caleb Funchess (Connie), Abigail Carlson (Clay), Addyson Funchess, Chad Funchess, Summer Funchess, Carson Funchess and twenty-three great-grandchildren; two nieces, Kay Roper (Terry) of Carlsbad, NM and Kellie Moore of Houston, Texas and many extended family and friends.
      The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2019 at Faith Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Funchess, Reverend Lanny J. Funchess, Reverend Jacob Reitz and Reverend Paul Funchess officiating. Burial will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery with Paul Funchess, Daniel Funchess, Kent Funchess, Caleb Funchess, Chad Funchess, Carson Funchess, Jacob Reitz and Clay Carlson serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
      Memorial donations are requested to the Faith Baptist Church Building Fund, 2415 Florida Street, Carlsbad, NM 88220.

Emily Metcalf of Forest City passed away at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills on June 12, 2019.  She was a native of Buncombe County.  Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ethel Wilson. Left to cherish her memory are her children Frankie McMahan of Forest City, Charles Williams of Chesnee, SC and Ethel Vance of Columbus, NC also a number of grandchildren.  Burial is private at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
