  Marcelo Masarjian, age 55, of Forest City, died December 30, 2019 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

     Marcelo was born September 28, 1964 to Reinate Janzen who resides in Forest City.

     No formal services are planned.

Crawford “C.B.” Harris, age 86, of Rutherfordton, died Monday, January 6, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

     C.B. was born July 4, 1933 in Rutherford County to the late Lonzo Crawford Harris and Emiline Rhodes Crawford. He was a graduate of R-S Central High School and a Korean War veteran having served honorably in the U.S. Army. C.B. worked for the Town of Forest City as an electrician for thirty-two years before retirement. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Forest City Fire Department for many years and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. C.B. started beekeeping at the age of five and continued his hobby throughout his lifetime. He lived a full and blessed life.

      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years, Roberta Stuart Harris and a daughter, Rita McClain.

      Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Rachel Critchley (Jim) of Rutherfordton and Rebecca Moeller (Greg) of Story City, Iowa; brother, Tom Harris (Beth) of Alma, Georgia; three grandchildren, Juliana, Celeste and Joshua and two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Mateo.

      The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Ruppe officiating. Interment will follow in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Honors will be provided by the Rutherford County Fire Department Honor Guard and the Rutherford County Military Honor Guard.

      Memorial donations are requested to the Harris Elementary Backpack Program, 3330 U.S. Highway 221 South, Forest City, NC  28043.

Donald Suttles, age 80, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at Mission Hospital.

He was the son of the late Oscar Suttles and the late Rosa Lee Suttles and a native of McDowell County. Donald was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rutherfordton. He was a mason and a member of Western Star Lodge # 91. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Warren Suttles, and one sister Jolynn Suttles Banner.

He is survived by his wife: Beverly A. Suttles.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Rutherfordton at 4:00 PM, Friday, January 10, 2020 with Reverend Dr. In – Yong Lee and Donnie Suttles officiating. The family will receive friends after the inurnment ceremony in the family life center at First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church; 246 North Main St. Rutherfordton, NC 28139. Wilma Johnson Vance, 73, of Rutherfordton, died Monday, January 6, 2020 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Myrtle Rumfelt Johnson. She was a retired textile winder.


Left to cherish her memory is her son, Troy Dale Vance; daughters Janet Wallace and husband Todd and Marlene Vance and wife Donna Harris; grandson Caleb Lee and wife Christie; great grandsons Reed Lee and Trenton Lee; step granddaughter, Kimberly Wallace; step great grandchildren, Lillian, Daisy and Rayan Thomas; four sisters; one brother; and a special sister in law. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Troy Vance, an infant son Douglas Vance, one brother and three sisters.


Funeral services will be held 2PM Friday, January 10, 2020 at Crowe’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. Keith Vance officiating. Interment will follow in Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Mortuary.

Jesse Randall Cook, age 62, of Mooresboro, died Saturday, January 4, 2020 at his residence.

     Jesse was born July 19, 1957 in Fort Hood, Texas to the late Dale Cook, Sr. and Theo Britt Cook. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a shelter supervisor for the Salvation Army in Augusta, Georgia for many years. He enjoyed carpentry work and remodeling homes.

     Those left to cherish his memory include one son, Jesse Randall Cook II of Spindale and daughter, Alanna Clark of Augusta, GA; grandson, Liam Ansley of Augusta; special friends and caretakers, Joe and Kimmie Riffey of Mooresboro. He is also survived by seven brothers and sisters.

     To honor his wishes, no formal services conducted.
