August 6 Obituaries

Hazel Spears, age 82, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019 at Willow Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
     Hazel was born February 14, 1937 in Polk County to the late Buster Green and Ollie Pritchard Green. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Hazel had a daycare at her house where she cared for young children for many years.
     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Krzywicki; two sisters and a brother.
     Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Rena Byers of Shelby; two sons, Roger Byars (Lori) of Mill Spring and James Byars (Doris Whitehurst) of Hendersonville; three sisters, Jeanette Kelly of Montana, Sarah Franklin of Mill Spring and Janet Pack of Tryon; two brothers, Johnny Parker of Rutherfordton and Duke Parker of Columbus, NC. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
      At the request of the family, no formal services will be conducted.

    Kathleen Fuller, age 74, of Forest City, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019 at Fair Haven Home of Forest City.
     Kathleen was born December 12, 1944 in Marshall, NC to the late Grady Ruff and Iva Jenkins Ruff. She was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family and friends. She always showed love and compassion to those who needed care. Kathleen was a member of East Rutherfordton Church of God and an avid fisherman. She enjoyed playing bingo which was one of her favorite things to do at Fair Haven.
     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda “Sissy” Babb; five brothers and one sister.
     Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Curtis “Skip” Babb of Harris and Barry Babb and wife, Lisa of Forest City; brother, Michael Ruff (Alice) of Greenville, SC and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
      A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at the Fair Haven Home of Forest City, 830 Bethany Church Road, with Reverend Bill Alley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the nursing home.
      The family wishes to thank the wonderful and caring staff of Fair Haven for the love that was given to Kathleen. They were just like family to her. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to Fair Haven Home, Activity Bingo Fund, 830 Bethany Church Road, Forest City, NC  28043.

 Leona Greene, age 96, of Forest City, NC, died Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Autumn Care in Drexel, NC.
     Leona was born March 28, 1923 in Cleveland County, to the late Gaither Wortman and Margaret Denton Wortman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Village Chapel. She enjoyed flower gardening, tending to her cats and being with her friends. Leona also loved her family and her church family dearly.
      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Greene; son, John Junior Whisenant; brother, Harold Gates; grandson, Danny Clark and great-great-grandson, Jacob Wright.
      Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Deanna Jo Norville of Connelly Springs and Jean Ross of Forest City; sister, Madine Green of Cameron, NC. She is also survived by six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren.
         A graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Reverend Billy Thompson officiating.
        Memorial donations are requested to the charity of choice.
