August 5 Obituaries

 Kathleen Fuller, age 74, of Forest City, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019 at Fair Haven Home of Forest City.
     Kathleen was born December 12, 1944 in Marshall, NC to the late Grady Ruff and Iva Jenkins Ruff. She was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family and friends. She always showed love and compassion to those who needed care. Kathleen was a member of East Rutherfordton Church of God and an avid fisherman. She enjoyed playing bingo which was one her favorite things to do at Fair Haven.
     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda “Sissy” Babb; five brothers and one sister.
     Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Curtis “Skip” Babb of Harris and Barry Babb and wife, Lisa of Forest City; brother, Michael Ruff (Alice) of Greenville, SC and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
      A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at the Fair Haven Home of Forest City, 830 Bethany Church Road, with Reverend Bill Alley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the nursing home.
      The family wishes to thank the wonderful and caring staff of Fair Haven for the love that was given to Kathleen. They were just like family to her. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to Fair Haven Home, Activity Bingo Fund, 830 Bethany Church Road, Forest City, NC  28043.

Betty M. Blanton, age 89, of Cliffside, NC, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, August 2, 2019 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
     Betty was born December 22, 1929 in Rutherford County to the late Joseph William Wise and Maude Huntsinger Wise. She was a graduate of Tri-High School worked for Cone Mills for thirty years. Betty was a long time and faithful member of Cliffside Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for over forty years. She was an avid reader and loved her family dearly.
     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Herman Blanton; son, Morris Blanton; grandson, Shannon Blanton; granddaughter, Amita Burgess; three brothers and five sisters.
      Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Joe Wayne Blanton and wife, Debra of Ellenboro and Ricky Blanton and wife, Debbie of Cliffside; four grandchildren, Shane Haney, Heather Toms (Virgil), Jeff Burgess, Jacob Blanton; ten great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
       The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Cliffside Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Elgin officiating. Interment will follow in Cliffside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mike “Smiley” Weathers, age 63, of Spindale, NC, formerly of Harris, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019 at his residence.
     Mike was born January 3, 1956 in Rutherford County to Buddy Weathers who resides in Cliffside and the late Elsie Jones Weathers. He was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1974 and was a proud graduate of Isothermal Community College. Mike worked for Cone Mills for thirty years where he served as the Safety and Maintenance Supervisor. He was much admired by all his peers and co-workers. He later worked for Viscotec in Morganton and Horsehead Industries. Mike was an accomplished welder, electrician and plumber and was always willing to go above and beyond to help his family, friends and community with any project, large or small. Because of his keen sense of humor, Mike was known as “Smiley” by all who knew him. He was a compassionate, kind and honorable man who loved his family and friends dearly. Mike was always willing to assist in any community project and was a faithful blood donor to the American Red Cross. He made a difference in every life he touched.
     In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty-two years, Cynthia Ann Moore Weathers and mother-in-law, Annie Mae Tate Moore.
     Besides his father, those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Dr. Mary Lela Weathers Miller and husband, Derick of Springfield, Virginia; two brothers, Ron Weathers of Pittsboro, NC and Terry Weathers of Cliffside; sister, Sandra Weathers of Mt. Pleasant, SC; uncle, Bert Weathers of Lattimore, NC; aunt, Nancy Mitchell of Charlotte and a special sister-in-law, Sandra Moore Stewart and husband, Robert of Harris, NC and a host of friends.
     A celebration of life will be conducted on a later date.
