Rutherford Regional releases statement on OB-GYN services

Rutherford Regional Health System (RRHS) was notified in late January that Drs. Pendleton and Sabolovic had chosen to move their practice to align with a hospital outside the Rutherfordton community, effective March 31. These two physicians were the only obstetrics and gynecology providers at RRHS, so we have had to temporarily suspend the delivery of babies at RRHS.

We recognize the importance of these services to a community like ours and have been aggressively working on a plan to ensure long-term access to high quality OB-GYN services. This includes discussions with well-respected providers who are familiar with the region, as well as discussions with candidates from across the country.

As we navigate through the recruitment process, we are committed to finding the best fit for our patients, staff and community. We want our patients and the community to know that it takes time to identify the right candidates and work through the subsequent credentialing and licensure processes.

We are hopeful to resume OB services in the next several months, and we will keep the community informed along the way. In the meantime, we currently offer a number of women’s health services, including preventive medicine and annual exams, with providers Dr. Kelly Blend, DO and Dr. Megan Mase, DO at our Forest City Family Care location.
