NC Guardian ad Litem Program-50 children need your help

]Rutherford County continues to see an increased need for Guardian ad Litem child advocates. The county and the children here are being directly affected by the increased substance abuse issues. This has led to an increase in the number of children who are involved with the foster care system, Rutherford County Department of Social Services and the court system.

Once a child enters into the realm of the NC Court system as a result of the Department of Social Services filing a petition, the NC Guardian ad Litem becomes involved. Our role is to solely advocate for the child’s best interest in court. A Guardian ad Litem is a trained, local volunteer that has a compassion and heart for helping children.  There is a screening process, a criminal background check and sex offender registry check as well as mandatory training. Rutherford County currently has approximately 142 children involved with the Guardian ad Litem office and over 50 of these children need a child advocate.
