RUTHERFORDTON — The Rutherfordton Town Council has called for a public hearing for the expansion plans for the Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church. The church still occupies the site selected in the 1830s. However, the current building on 252 N. Washington Street in Rutherfordton dates to 1952 and was built to replace a frame church.

John Boyce Miller built Holly Hill in Rutherfordton. The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home has been totally restored.

Plans for the expansion were shown at last week’s Rutherfordton Town Council monthly meeting. Mayor Jimmy Dancy was quick to point out that the plans were made to blend in with Holly Hill and the historic Presbyterian church now used as a yoga studio.

The plans require a conditional use permit to meet zoning requirements. Both the Historic Preservation Commission and the Planning Department met last week to review the plans.

The public hearing is scheduled for March 6, 2019.
