SHELBY —Ed Cushman received received tickets to watch the Super Bowl with the help of a former Saints player and his nonprofit foundation. Cushman suffers from the neurological disease known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Team Gleason, founded by former New Orleans Saints football player Steve Gleason had provided Cushman two tickets to the Super Bowl. Sadly, on the way to Atlanta, Cushman and his brother were involved in a motor vehicle accident in Lavonia, Georgia, which engulfed their vehicle in flames. Ed Cushman died in the accident.
“Our brief relationship with Ed’s family was filled with excitement, as Team Gleason secured the ADA Super Bowl tickets he requested. Like so many with ALS, Ed was passionate about living and he dreamed of going to the Super Bowl. We were honored to have played a small role in helping make that possible for such an amazing man,” according to a statement from Team Gleason.
“Words cannot express how shocked we are for Ed and his entire family,” Team Gleason said in their statement. “We remain committed to the ALS community and Ed’s family in this time of incredible sadness.”
