The Martin Luther King Jr. Committee of the New Hope Community, in conjunction with community partners including the Rutherfordton Ministerial Alliance, is presenting a Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service and Celebration to honor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his continued legacy. This year’s theme is “Together, We Make a Difference.”
On Sunday, January 20, at 3:30 p.m., everyone is invited to the annual MLK program at 2nd Baptist Church. The MLK Community Choir, made up of members of several churches throughout the region, will be leading the service, and the guest speaker, Reverend Reginald Coffey, will deliver a message. Following the program will be the unveiling of a new road sign on Green Street, and a reception to follow.
On Monday, January 21 at 10:00 a.m., there will be a walk from the new commemorative sign on Green Street up to the Court House lawn, where there will be a gospel festival that will include speakers and the MLK Community Choir.
Refreshments following the festival will be served at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
Please join us for this event as we celebrate the legacy of Dr. King, and explore the greater question, “How can the community make a difference by working together?”
