RUTHERFORD Co., N.C. — A wanted man who was shot in a struggle with a Rutherford County deputy is in jail. The shooting happened Wednesday night near the intersection of Sarah Lee Road and Piney Knob Road.
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said that a deputy was checking a suspicious vehicle with several people inside and found a man with an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.
That suspect was identified as 31-year-old Paul Michael Wrenn.
Deputies say Wrenn ran to avoid arrest. The officer caught up with Wrenn who began fighting the deputy.
The sheriff’s office said Wrenn hit the deputy in the head with a blunt object. The deputy shot Wrenn. Both were taken to Rutherford Regional Hospital.
Wrenn was released from the hospital and taken to Rutherford County Detention Center.
Wrenn remains in jail under $30,500 bond on several charges.
The North Carolina State State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is investigating the shooting.
