Obituaries

Richard Hunt Kenter, age 88, of Rutherfordton, NC passed away on December 24th 2018 at his home. Richard was the son of the late Warren and Mildred Kushmore Kenter, and step-son to the late Lola Kenter. He served in the United States Army during the occupation following WWII, and later in life retired from the Escondido, CA Police Department. In his spare time he could be found playing the piano.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife Arlene Landes Kenter; son Rick Kenter and wife Christina; daughter Robin Sheriff and husband Mark; grandchildren Kris Roark, Kyle Roark and wife Courtney; In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Warren Kenter. Jack passed at the age of 19 while serving in WWII.

Services are to be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O. Box 336 Forest City, NC 28043.

Lynda Coleman Womack, age 87, of Forest City, NC, died Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at her home in Forest City. 

She was born October 20, 1931 in New Albany, Mississippi to the late Walter & Hazel Gardner Coleman. She was the widow of the late James Otho Womack. Lynda was a member of Chesnee United Methodist Church, Chesnee, S.C. She retired from Spartanburg School District 7. She was preceded in death by one brother Joseph Edwin Coleman.

She is survived by 

One Son:  Jeffrey K. Womack and his wife Alma of Corpus Christi, TX

Sisters-in-laws:Marjorie Womack and Frances Yelton.

Several nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. 

The Graveside service will be at Gilboa United Methodist Church Cemetery at 1:00 PM, Friday, December 28, 2018 with Reverend Bill Thompson officiating. Interment will be at Gilboa cemetery.

Mr. Ronald Eugene Baker, age 68, passed away Monday, December 24, 2018 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center in Rutherfordton, NC.

Ronald was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War and he will be laid to rest in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.

He is survived by his wife Mary Rowe Baker, one son Ronald Lee Baker, one daughter Rachel Baker, two stepsons John Raber and James Raber, two step daughters Jeane Raber and Julie Gerber, two sisters Barbara Lamb and Cynthia Cole, grandpa’s handyman Cliff Hanni, thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM Monday, December 31, 2018 at Crowe’s Funeral Chapel 118 College Ave., Rutherfordton, NC 28139. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. _________________________________________________________

Rusty Greenway, age 62, of Ellenboro, died Thursday, December 27, 2018. 

He was the son of the late Frank Greenway and the late Louise Greenway. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Sara Lovelace and Sandy Hill.

Rusty was a native of Rutherford County. He was a member of Haynes Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include:

One Sister: Frankie Smith and her husband Bob of Boone

Three Brothers: Doug Greenway and his wife Lesia of Rutherfordton
Randy Greenway and his wife Lecia of Rutherfordton
Bud Greenway of Forest City

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, December 28, 2018 at McMahan’s Funeral Home & Cremation Services. The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend John Godfrey and Reverend Bryan Hardin officiating.

Interment will be at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Rutherfordton.
