911 Call on Shooting Warns of Subject’s Fake Gun

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Last week a Sheriff deputy shot a man in response to a domestic call at approximately 2 p.m. Sunday at a home on Pebblestone Lane. Sheriff Chris Francis said in his press release on the incident “Rutherford County Communications Center received a phone call reporting that there was a domestic incident involving weapons at 113 Pebblestone Lane in Rutherfordton. “

However that release does not convey what the caller, the subject’s mom, told 911 Communications Center. The mother warned (see transcript below) that the subject was bipolar, had a fake gun and would probably brandish it in front of the officers.

Also, in Channel 13 WLOS’ first report, it said that the “subject had what [the officer] thought was a gun.” Later, Channel 13 changed their story to the official press release of the shooting incident.

Neither deputy was injured and the man with multiple wounds was taken by helicopter to Mission Hospital  from RRHS.
