RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. – A woman was killed while taking her son to school when an uprooted tree fell on their car. The N.C. Highway Patrol said the accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday on Dills Road near Harris Elementary School.
Troopers identified the victim as 46-year-old Lisa Prayther who lived on the road. She died instantly when an oak tree uprooted and fell on top of the car.
After the tree hit the car, it went off the road and hit a mobile home. Prayther’s 13-year-old son was also in the car. He was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and is expected to recover.
Also assisting at the scene were Sandy Mush firefighters, Rutherford County EMS, Rutherford County Rescue, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department.
