POLK COUNTY, N.C. — Polk and Rutherford counties have declared states of emergency ahead of Hurricane Florence. Part of the emergency plan means some resources would be breaking off from the World Equestrian Games should a weather emergency arise.
Polk County Manager Marche Pittman said many first responders from across the state have already gone back to their hometowns to serve their own communities because of Hurricane Florence.
The difficult part is knowing what will happen.
Just four months ago, a storm system caused mudslides and heavy flooding that led to the deaths of three people. The NCDOT cleanup from that storm will now be tested.
