Rutherford County Schools Hosts Training for Interested Mentors
FOREST CITY, NC – Reading Buddies, an elementary mentoring program sponsored by the Rutherford County Schools Education Foundation, is seeking new mentors. Through this program, students at all ten Rutherford County Schools elementary campuses are paired with volunteer mentors who visit with them at school regularly throughout the school year. Many mentors stay with their mentees through their entire elementary experience, and in less than one hour per week, Reading Buddies are able to empower students in immeasurable ways!
On Tuesday, September 18, 2018, Rutherford County Schools will host Reading Buddies training at the Cool Springs Administrative Offices in Forest City at 5:30pm. Community members interested in making lasting impacts on the lives of Rutherford County’s children are invited to attend training and to become Reading Buddies.
The elementary mentoring program emphasizes reading because literacy is the key to success for students. Reading to or reading with a student is a great way to support the development of reading proficiency. Reading Buddies, however, can also have lunch with their mentees, provide help with other subjects, assist with research on a topic of interest or just listen when mentees need to talk.
The mentor training is approximately 90 minutes and covers poverty awareness, mentoring guidelines and Reading Buddies strategies. Those interested in becoming Reading Buddies should contact Angel King at 828-288-2331 or email@example.com to register for the September 18th training or to schedule another training session. Onsite trainings for groups, such as church, civic or professional organizations, can also be scheduled by contacting Mrs. King.
The RCS Ed Foundation and Rutherford County Schools greatly appreciate the commitment of current mentors and the consideration of potential future mentors!
