GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. – South Carolina Highway Patrol responded Wednesday to a multiple ambulance chain-reaction wreck in Greenville County. Four ambulances had slowed for normal traffic when the fifth ambulance driver failed to slow and rear-ended the fourth ambulance on I-85. The accident happened at about 5:30 p.m. near mile marker 51.
The driver of the fourth ambulance was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. Four of the ambulances had to be towed from the scene, according to the Highway Patrol.
The ambulances were headed east from Atlanta to assist with the hurricane efforts.
