Fun for the whole family, after hours at Columbus Library! Join us for Family Fort Night on Monday, August 13 at 6:30pm to build and decorate your own fort in the library, then settle in and read a few books. Fort-building materials, snacks, and games will be provided. BYO blankets and pillows!

Children’s Programs

Family Fun Storytime
Thursdays @ 10:30am, Columbus Library
Kids ages 0-5 can enjoy books, songs, and a craft each week.
Special storytimes:
August 23: Stuffed Animal Sleepover
Drop your stuffed animals off by 5pm on Wednesday, August 22 and they will enjoy a sleepover at the library. Come back the next morning for breakfast, storytime, and a photo slideshow of all the animals’ adventures!
August 30: Tea Party
Dress in your finest attire for a special “high tea” storytime.

Paws to Read
Fridays @ 10am, Saluda Library
Baileyboo the Labrador Retriever therapy dog loves to hear kids read and is available on Friday mornings all summer so you can practice your reading while school is out.

Hands On presents “Geology Rocks”
Monday, August 6 @ 2pm, Saluda Library
Investigate the world beneath our feet. Learn how to identify rocks and minerals and discover what treasures can be found nearby!

Hoop Jam
Wednesday, August 8 @ 11am and 12:30pm, Stearns Park
Meet at Stearns Park in Columbus to explore hoop dancing with Melanie MacNeil from Asheville Hoops. There will be jammin’ tunes and hoops for all to use at this event that promotes movement and dance. Rain location is Stearns Gym.

High School Musical 2 & Locker Magnets
Thursday, August 2 @ 2pm, Columbus Library
Sing along with Troy and Gabriela during the 2007 sequel while making magnets for your locker out of perler beads.

Empire Records Escape Room
Thursday, August 9 @ 2pm, Columbus Library
Help rising rock star Seth find his song! He is supposed to debut the song live on The Tonight Show, but someone has stolen his work. Teens will have one hour to work together to find the song and meet Seth at the show before it starts!

Back to School Party
Monday, August 27 @ 4pm, Saluda Library
Celebrate the new school year with games, crafts, and food in the teen space.

Cookbook Club

Each month will challenge you to create a themed dish to share with friends at a potluck lunch. Be sure to bring a copy of the recipe too! August’s theme is brunch. Bacon, bagels, or biscuits? Bring a dish you would enjoy for a late breakfast or early lunch.

Team Trivia
3rd Fridays @ 6pm, Tryon Coffeehouse Co-op
Play by yourself or with a team of family and friends. Any number of people may be on a team but all team members must share the prize if they win! Gift cards are awarded to the top three teams. This month’s theme is music.

Scientists need your help in studying animals everywhere, including your own backyard! Learn all about our creepy crawly friends, go on a short guided insect walk, and find out how to earn your Entomology Field Badge and a free pass to Monarch Butterfly Day at the NC Arboretum. For ages 5 to 13, but all are welcome to attend.
