POLK Co., N.C. – Mudslides Friday night left one person trapped inside a home on Hwy 176 in Tryon, N.C. 10:45 update: Polk County Emergency Management said they have located the woman and she is dead.
Tryon Fire Chief Geoffrey Tennant stated a mudslide washed away parts of the road along Hwy 176, including the driveway of a home in the 3000 block. The crews brought equipment in to rescue the trapped person. There are no injuries reported at this time.
Mud and trees have closed off some other roads in the area, such as Howard Gap Rd. and Warrior Rd.
Interstate 26 near mile marker 53 and 54 were flooded with approximately 3-feet of water. Columbus Fire Chief Priester said currently Silver Creek Road in Mills Springs is closed and Culverts Cove Road is flooded.
Multiple trees are down.
The National Weather Service is reporting that Lake Adger Parkway is blocked near Columbus, as 18 inches of rainfall is flowing across the road.
