Obituaries

Maxine Greene, age 79, of Forest City, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Born April 22, 1939 in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late Hollis Smith and Penola Blackwell Smith. Maxine was a graduate of Harris High School, class of 1956 and worked in the floral department of the Kroger Grocery Store in Memphis, Tennessee for twenty years. She also worked for Tanners Corp. for several years. Maxine was the designated cook and the bearer of the family recipes. She and her late husband enjoyed traveling the world together. Maxine was a member of Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church and will always be known as a kind and compassionate Christian lady.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Wendell Ray Greene; son, Michael Greene; daughter, Lisa Huffstetler; brother, Wendell Smith; two half-sisters, Roberta Powell and Louise Williams and half-brother, David Smith.

Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Terry Greene and wife, Debra of Corona, California and Chris Greene of Forest City; brother, Cecil Smith and wife, Patsy of Chesnee and sister, Kate Brown of Bonneau, SC and a “sister of the heart”, Beverly Henson Hicks of Forest City.  She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Susan Smith of Chesnee; seven grandchildren, Jason Green (Sarah), Christy Greene (Leah), Kevin Greene, Melissa Greene Nance (Jason), C.W. Huffstetler (Mallory), Jackson Huffstetler, Ben Huffstetler; two great-grandchildren, Ashton and Ayden Nance and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Travis Smith and Reverend Robert Carnell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the church. Interment will follow at Broad River Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorial donations are respectfully requested to Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church, 2004 Chase High Road, Forest City, NC  28043.

Wendell Paul Radford Jr., 56 went home to be with the Lord on April 27, 2018.  Left to cherish his memory is a son Chad Radford, a daughter Beth Keeter, three sisters Carol Radford, Sandra Radford and Angela Humphries, a brother Christopher Paul Radford and five grandchildren.  No services will be held.

Alfred “Fred” Willis of Ellenboro N.C. went to be with the Lord at the early age of 52. He was born January 14th, 1966 and took his last breath, after a long battle with lung cancer on May 13th, 2018. He was surrounded by his family and friends during this battle over the last 7 months.

Alfred loved his job, he was a brick mason for over 30 years. When he wasn’t working he loved fishing, shooting guns, going four-wheeling in his “Cow truck”, drinking Bud Light and talking with people.

He was proceeded in death by his father and mother. Alfred Monroe Willis Sr. and Dorothy “Dot” Terry of Mooresboro, and one brother Lee Willis of Shelby.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Lisa Willis of Ellenboro, a brother Tim Willis of Shelby, and three sisters: Patsy Pack of Ellenboro, Frances Grooms, and Candy Willis both from Shelby. He had six children and eight grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.  Two sons; Bobby Willis of Shelby with his two sons Ian and Aiden Willis, Matthew and Alisha Willis of Mooresboro with their two fur babies Tank and Brie.  Four daughters; Jessica and Shane Davis of Bostic with their three children Gavin, Alivia and Layla, Melissa and Eric Toney of Bostic with their three children, James, Kyle, and Abigail, Jennifer Allen of Soiux Falls, South Dakota, Amanda and Micheal Hughes of Ellenboro.

 

A receiving friends and family will be held at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Bostic N.C. ( 801 Mt. Lebanon Church Rd Bostic N.C. 28018) at 4pm on Thursday May 17th with a dinner at 6pm following the visitation. All those wanting to stay and eat, Please do so!


Dannie E. McDaniel, age 66, of Shelby, passed away, Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Carolinas Healthcare System-Cleveland.

Born July 21, 1951 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Robert Lee McDaniel and Ruby Ervin McDaniel. Dannie worked for Cone Mills for most of his life. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed bowling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of thirty years, Barbara Jones McDaniel and a second wife, Beatrice Adams McDaniel and a brother, Albert McDaniel.

Those left to cherish his memory include two sisters, Martha “Polly” Piercy of Mooresboro and Mary Morgan of South Carolina; two brothers, Rufus McDaniel and wife, Wanda of Cliffside and Robert McDaniel of Mooresboro; step-son, Doug Piercey and fiancé, Sandy Ledford of Shelby; step-grandchild, Lisandra Piercey and a special family friend, David Ayers and wife, Nok of Mooresboro.

In honor of Dannie’s life, a gathering of family and friends will be conducted from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18th at Harrelson Funeral Home.
