...HEAVY SNOW POSSIBLE ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE NORTH CAROLINA
MOUNTAINS TONIGHT INTO MONDAY...

.A strong upper level disturbance combined with a strengthening
area of surface low pressure will keep moisture across the area
tonight. As colder air begins filtering into the mountains
tonight, rain may mix with sleet or freezing rain before changing
over to snow. Snow is expected to accumulate across mainly the
higher elevations of the North Carolina mountains, with the
highest amounts in the northern mountains.

TONIGHT TO MIDNIGHT EDT MONDAY NIGHT BELOW 3500 FEET...

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected above 3500 feet. Mixed
  precipitation expected below 3500 feet. Above 3500 feet, total
  snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of a
  light glaze are expected, with localized amounts up to 6 inches.
  Below 3500 feet, total snow accumulations of up to two inches
  and a light glaze are expected, with localized amounts up to 4
  inches.

* WHERE...Avery, Yancey and Mitchell Counties.

* WHEN...From midnight tonight to midnight EDT Monday night.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on difficult travel conditions. Tree
  branches could fall. Be prepared for significant reductions in
  visibility at times.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet
and ice will make travel very hazardous or impossible. Strong
winds are also expected.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will
cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered
roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
