RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A Beech M35 airplane made a gear up landing at RC’s Marchman Field (KFQD) around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The Hudlow Fire Department, RC Rescue, and two Highway Patrol responded to the emergency landing. The pilot and passenger were okay but the plane sustained major damage to the propeller and engine upon landing.
A belly landing or gear–up landing occurs when an aircraft lands without its landing gear fully extended and uses its underside, or belly, as its primary landing device.
FAA registration shows the plane to belong to Barry G. Beaver of Shelby, N.C. in adjoining Cleveland County.
