Wayne D. McGinnis, age 75, of Forest City, died Sunday, January 28, 2018 at his residence.

Born May 13, 1942 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Osborne McGinnis and Stella Price McGinnis. He was a faithful employee for A.R. Thompson Asphalt for many years before retirement. Wayne’s greatest pleasure in life came from spending time with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Jennifer Weast.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of fifty years, Reba McGinnis; daughter, Tina Walker and husband, Michael of Forest City; one son, Eric McGinnis and wife, Sandra of Clarmont, FL; sister, Frances Morgan and husband, Gene of Forest City; four brothers, Larry McGinnis and wife, Janice of Forest City, Doug McGinnis and wife, Sandy of Raleigh, NC, Ronnie McGinnis and wife, Debbie and David McGinnis all of Forest City. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Ethan Rodriguez (Krystl), Devin McGinnis, Macey McGinnis, Derek McGinnis, Jamie Beam, Chad Beam, Trevor Beam, Daughtry Mitchell, Riley Weast, Aiden Weast and Megan Weast; two great-grandchildren, Savannah Campbell and Lilly Rodriguez; three step-grandchildren, Elisabeth Walker, Brian Maudy and Mikey Walker.

A memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend David Bradley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Ted Rudisell Frye, age 85, of Rutherfordton, died, Sunday, January 29, 2018 at the Hospice House in Forest City. A native of Gaston County he was a son of the late Marvin Frye and Ethel Bumgardner Frye; a fireman with the Charlotte Fire Department retiring after 32 years of service, a veteran, having served in the US Army during the Korean War, and attended the Adaville Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Darius Frye and a sister, Jean King.

Survivors include his wife Selma J. Kilpatrick, two sons, Barton Frye of Concord, NC, Eric Frye and his wife Lisa of Southport, NC, a daughter, Susan Smith of Rutherfordton, grandchildren, Kendall, Hunter, Stephanie, Kelsey, and Bryson. There are 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at three o’clock in the afternoon, Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Adaville Baptist Church with the Reverend Jonathan Cobb and Reverend Dr. Jim Whitlow officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 3 prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Mr. Ronnie Steve Jackson, 69, of Shelby, died Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Charles George VA Medical Center Hospice.
He was the son of the late Thomas Wayne Jackson and Marie Dalton Jackson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Freida Barrier; and 2 brothers, John Wayne Jackson and Tommy Jackson. He was a US Army Vietnam veteran and earned an Associates Degree from Cleveland Tech.
He is survived by a sister, Martha Hawkins of Mooresboro; his 4 brothers, Jerry Jackson and wife Trudy, of Boiling Springs, SC, Charles Jackson and wife Amy, of Mooresboro, William Jackson of Alexander, and Franklin Jackson and wife Nancy, of Bostic; he is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Bostic Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Lane will officiate. The Rutherford County Honor Guard will provide Military Rites.

Mr. Robert Gene “Bob” Waters, 83, of Bostic, died Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Hospice House, Forest City.
Robert was born in Rutherford County on December 13, 1934, he was the son of the late Norris Waters and Nixie Biggerstaff Waters, in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Secker and Francis Waters; and his brothers Jim and David Waters. Robert was a graduate of Sunshine High School, a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church, a member of Masonic Lodge #535 and served in the US Army for 2 years. He was a truck driver for many companies and a logger for Waters Lumber Company.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ester Waters; his daughters, Robin Dodson of Bostic, and Angela Waters of Nashville, TN; his granddaughters, Hannah Grubb and husband Kolby, and Alexandria Hutchins and husband Brandon, all of Bostic; a great grandson, Logan Grubb; his brother, Edward “Bud” Waters of Bostic; and his sisters, Nancy Upton of Bostic, and Martha Hood of Mint Hill.
The Funeral will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service. The Rev. Paul White, Jr.  will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sandy Level Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Visitation will be from 12:45 pm until 1:45 pm Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Amanda B. Waters, age 87, of Ellenboro, died Sunday, January 28, 2018 at her residence.

Born January 9, 1931 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Bates Chivous Baynard and Katherine Melton Baynard. She worked for Burlington Industries and Cone Mill-Avondale Plant most of her life before retiring. Amanda attended Caroleen Missionary Methodist Church and enjoyed country music and growing plants. She was known by all of her family and friends for ability to make delicious gravy.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Linda Craft and husband, David of Ellenboro and Debra Haulk of Bostic; five grandchildren, Sandy Henson (Jason) of Cowpens, Trevis Craft (Pam) of Caroleen, Vicki Childers of Ellenboro, Davina Shade (Rob) of Ellenboro and Robby Suttle (Haley) of Forest City; thirteen great-grandchildren, Kasey, Lexi and Kenzie Gilbert; Preston Victoria, D.J., and Blake Childers; Rebecca and Sam Craft; Hayden Katlyn, Madison and Nic Suttle; three great-great-grandchildren, Lyric, Jaylee and Charlee. She also survived by a nephew, Bobby Baynard and niece, Beverly Pruett.

A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Sam Henderson and Reverend Joseph Dutton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Becky Morrow Tipton, age 75, of Forest City, died Friday, January 26, 2018 at her residence.

Born April 9, 1942 in Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Morrow and Laura Warlick Morrow. She was a kindhearted lady whose labor of love was being a caretaker for the elderly. Becky was an avid reader and a past member of Alexander Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Tipton and ten brothers and sisters, Jack Morrow, Charles Morrow, Joe Morrow, Jerry Morrow, Irene Splawn, Ruth Moore, Betty Bostic, Rosie Bridges, Martha McDaniel and Donna Roach.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sisters, Linda Vallecillo and Susan Dycus both of Forest City. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who she loved dearly and her companion pet, Sugar.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ernie Cole and Mr. Scott Roach officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home. At other times they will be gathered at a special niece’s house, Nancy Splawn, 1729 Oakland Road, Forest City, NC  28043.

Nannie Dills Reid, age 89, of Forest City, passed this life on January 27, 2018 at Oak Grove Healthcare Center in Rutherfordton,NC.

Born July 26, 1928 in Swain County, she a daughter of the late Tollie Dills and the late Elizabeth Frady Dills. Nan enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables. She also loved her many farm animal pets. In her later years, reading was her favorite hobby. She was a member of Tanners Grove United Methodist Church. Her lifetime of hard work included working on the family farm, textiles, and being a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hicks Reid, brothers Henry Dills, Wade Dills, Vincent Dills, Fred Dills and younger siblings who died in childhood. She was also preceded in death by sisters Rosie Cabe, Thelma Price and Wilma Lowe.

She is survived by

Two Sisters:
Mary Pauline Justice of Fair Haven of Forest City
Flonnie Jolley of White Oak Rutherfordton.

Numerous nieces and nephews are also left to cherish her memory. A special “thank you” is extended to the staff of Oak Grove Healthcare who took wonderful care of Nan for almost ten years and were very attentive to her during the last weeks of her life. Also, Hospice of Rutherford County helped Nan’s transition from this life to the next be comfortable.
