Woman charged with accessory after the fact in drug overdose death

MARION — A McDowell County grand jury, convening in December, returned a true bill of indictment for accessory after the fact to second-degree murder for Natasha Leann Brooks, 23, of 92 North Red Town Road in Old Fort.

The accessory charge is in connection with the Feb. 2, 2017 death of 22-year-old Sydney Dara Nanney, of Marion. She was found deceased in her vehicle from an apparent overdose.

Last year, Lt. Andy Manis of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Brooks’ boyfriend, 27-year-old Shane Allen Parker, of 41 Austin Drive in Marion, with second-degree murder.

Manis said Nanney overdosed on fentanyl and heroin sold to her by Parker. He added that Brooks aided Parker by meeting others to pick up the drugs and also hid drugs from authorities after Nanney died.
