Catherine McGinnis Cooper, age 82, died January 2, 2018 at White Oak Manor of Rutherfordton where she was a resident. A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late James Adam McGinnis and Jessie Mae Henson McGinnis and widow of the late John Harrill Cooper. She was the executive secretary for Mastercraft Corporation, a graduate of Cool Springs High School where she was voted most athletic her senior year and excelled in basketball, and was also a member of Liberty Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John Mark Cooper.

Survivors include her sons, Keith Cooper of Forest City, NC and Scott Cooper of Mooresville, NC; a daughter, Pam Wilkins of Haw River, NC; a brother, Ken McGinnis of Bostic, NC; sisters, Carolyn Harrill of Forest City, NC, Joyce Heavner of Shelby, NC, Judy Webb and Rita Dodson, both of Ellenboro; twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3 pm Thursday, January 4th in the Padgett & King chapel. Interment will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. James Alvin Reece, 57, of Rutherfordton, died Monday, January 1, 2018 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

He was the son of the late James and Fern Weatherman Reece. He was a Christian and worked as a driver for Reliable Tank Lines.

He is survived by his sisters, Connie Reece and Tracy Tricarico, both of Rutherfordton; and his stepson, Lee Harwood of Spindale.

A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday, January 5, 2018 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 150 Pleasant Grove Road, Rutherfordton. The Rev. Neil Murray will officiate.

Mr. Glen “Tib” McCurry, 89, of Golden Valley, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 2, 2018  at The Laurels of Green Tree Ridge in Asheville.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Solon Roosevelt and Willie Smawley MCurry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ivo McCurry. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, retired from Breeden’s Poultry Company in Morganton, and was a WWII Army Veteran.

Tib is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Pauline McCurry; his sons, Ford McCurry and wife Barbara of Leicester, and Keith McCurry and wife Paula of Golden Valley; his grandson, David McCurry of Leicester; his brothers, Floyd “Gib” McCurry of Marion, and Sherrill McCurry of Golden Valley; there are several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral will be conducted at 3:00 pm Friday, January 5, 2018 at Fairview Baptist Church. The Rev. Allen Rash, Rev. David Ledford, and Rev. John Ware will officiate. Burial will follow in the Golden Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.

The Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 2:45 pm Friday at the church prior to the service.
