Wind Chill Advisory

WIND CHILL ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 10 AM EST TUESDAY…

* WHAT…Black ice occurring. Recent light precipitation has produced a glaze of ice on many surfaces around the region, and slippery conditions due to black ice are likely. Very cold wind chills are expected. Wind chill values will fall into the minus 5 to minus 10 range, with higher elevations along the northern Blue Ridge possibly seeing wind chill values of 10 to 15 degrees below zero.

* WHERE…Locations east of the Blue Ridge in the mountains of western North Carolina.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Roads will remain treacherous this morning due to the light ice glaze and very cold temperatures in the single digits and teens. The cold wind chills will cause frostbite to exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Wind Chill Advisory means that the co ld air and wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves.
