Ellenboro – Ms. Melissa Dawn Farmer, age 51 of Ellenboro passed away at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center on December  28, 2017.
 

Private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Robert Morgan Funeral and Cremation Service LLC of Boiling Springs NC. 


Guy Cochran, age 57, of Rutherfordton, died Saturday, December 30, 2017, at his home.

He was a native of Rutherford County and was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of Spindale United Methodist Church but had recently been attending Gilboa United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by one son Joseph Edward Cochran and one brother Dennis Cochran.

He is survived by his parents Johnny William Cochran and Virginia Louise Cochran.

The funeral service will be at McMahan’s Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 4, 2018. Interment will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.  Nancy Conner Hancock, age 74, of Gilkey, died Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Hospice House of Rutherford County.

She was the daughter of the late Avery Laxton Conner and the late Margaret Frady Conner. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Jack L. Conner.

Nancy loved to paint and taught painting classes. She also loved going to the beach.

She is survived by her husband: Walter Eugene Hancock Sr.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Gilkey United Methodist Church with Reverend Jack Bridges and Reverend Charles McClure officiating. Mr. Lonnie Dale Horton age 46, of Green Creek North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on December 29, 2017.

Born on April 19, 1971 in Tryon,  North Carolina, he was the son of Delmar Lonnie Horton (Deborah) and Cherie Lynn Rogers who were both of Rutherford County.

Lonnie was employed at S&N Communications as a supervisor. He was previously employed for 25 years at Communication Services Incorporated, also as a supervisor.

Lonnie is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jean Horton.   He is also survived by his four children, Cassie Smith, Zack Smith, Paige Horton, Christopher Dale Horton and his two grandchildren, Oliver See and Eli See.  Also his two siblings Nicki Dill (Keith) and Autumn Horton and many family members including numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends Thursday January 4, 2017 from 1 to 2PM at Lake Lure Baptist Church, 6837 US 64/74A Highway, Lake Lure, with the memorial service at 2PM with Pastor Anton Roos officiating. All flowers and donations can be sent to the church in the family’s name.  Crowe’s Mortuary is assisting the family of Lonnie Dale Horton.


Louise Holland Wilkie, age 91, of Rutherfordton, died Friday, December 29, 2017, at White Oak Manor Nursing Home in Rutherfordton.

She was the daughter of the late Gaines Oliver Holland and the late Emma Dobbins Holland. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son Timothy Scott Wilkie age 16.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton. She managed at Smith’s Drugs in Rutherfordton for many years.

Julia M. Sanders, age 79 of Bostic, died Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Hospice of The Carolina Foothills. She was born June 17, 1938 in Macon County, North Carolina and was a daughter of the late Sherman and Sissie Greene Messer. Julia was a member of Concord Baptist Church and retired as a Belk’s Associate at the Tri-City Mall where she worked for many years. She was also preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Boyd Eugene McGaha as well as her second husband, George Emanuel Sanders in 2003, a brother, Joe Messer and sisters, Flonnie Stacey and Margie Marr.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Wilkie and husband David, Linda Robbins and husband Bobby, all of Forest City and Brenda Sorrow of Mooresboro, her grandchildren, Jennifer Robbins Smoak and Jason Smoak, and their children, Parker, Karsyn, and Braden, Brian Robbins and wife Leah, and their children, Blakely, Josie, and Van, Lauren Robbins Yount and husband David and their children, Alexandria and Lucas, Julie Robbins and son Maddox, Drew Wilkie and wife Megan and their children, Allistair, Emma, and Addison, Hope Wilkie Williamson and husband J.J. and their children, Kendra, James, Kylie, and David, Michelle Knight Grier and husband Marlon, and their children, Chelsie, Jamal, Abby, and Chris , Daniel Knight, and Christine Knight Dubose and Husband Jon. Three step-children, Christopher L. Sanders, Donita Vassey and husband Charles, and Sharon McGinnis and a sister, Mary Welch of Gastonia.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at two o’clock on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in the Concord Baptist Church with Reverend Travis Laflin officiating. Interment will follow in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 until 2PM Wednesday in the Sanctuary of Concord Baptist Church prior to the service.

Grover “Monroe” Ensley, age 78, of Cliffside, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Hospice House in Forest City.

Born June 14, 1939 in Rutherford County, he was son of the late John Frank Ensley and Ozelle Smith Ensley. He was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1957 and worked for Lithium FMS Corporation for thirty-five years before retirement. Monroe was a faithful member of Cliffside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and in many other capacities. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as deer hunting, fishing and gardening. Monroe was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Ensley Turner.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Midgie White Ensley; one daughter, Melissa E. Cantrell and husband, Mike of Forest City; a son, Mitchell S. Ensley and wife, Mitzi of Cliffside; five grandchildren, Miles Ensley (Heather), Micaela Cantrell, Michelle Hancock, Mandel Cantrell, Megan Ensley and three great-grandchildren, South Ensley, Carolina Ensley and Riley Hancock. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, Herman Turner of Caroleen and sister-in-law, Barbara Matheny along with a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 1, 2018 at the Cliffside Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Elgin and Reverend Larry Fleming officiating.
Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
