Shane “Mayhem” Briscoe, age 53, of Forest City, died Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Hospice House of Rutherford County.

He was a native of Rutherford County and the son of the late Edward Gonnie Briscoe and the late Sue Mitchem Oyler. He was a member of Oak Springs Baptist Church. Shane liked to make a grand entrance wherever he went. He loved to ride motorcycles and loved all of the brothers and sisters that he rode with. Shane also loved his fur babies; Spirit, Lil Devil and Diamond.

He is survived by his wife: Connie Briscoe.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at McMahan’s Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at McMahan’s Funeral Home Chapel at 12:00 PM, Saturday, November 18, 2017 with Mike Gettys officiating.

Elizabeth McEntire Barbee, age 92, of Rutherfordton, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Hospice House of Rutherford County.

She was born in Rutherford County on February 11, 1925 to the late King H. McEntire and the late Estelle Goforth McEntire. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton and graduated from R-S Central High School and attended Mars Hill College. She worked at Whachovia Bank in Winston Salem for several years and then for Union Trust Bank in Rutherfordton as a bookeeper before retiring from Rutherford Hospital where she worked in their office. She was preceded in death by one brother King Norman McEntire of Rutherfordton.

She is survived by;

One sister in law:
Elizabeth McEntire Sinclair of Forest City

One nephew: Tim McEntire of Forest City

Two nieces: Sheree Crowder of Rutherfordton and Renee Nolan of Forest City and many great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Hospice House Of Rutherford County for their loving care for Elizabeth. At Elizabeth’s request there will be no formal services held. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills at P.O. Box 336 Forest City, NC 28043.

Mr. Leonard Vernon “Cantaloupe” Propes, 89, of Golden Valley, died Monday, November 13, 2017 at his residence.

Leonard was born in Golden Valley on March 31, 1928. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eva Propes Huskins and his stepfather James Banner Huskins. He was a dedicated member of Golden Valley United Methodist Church, and was retired from NC DOT after 33 years of service and loved to travel. As an avid sports fan, Leonard loved the Tarheels, the Dodgers and church league softball.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ethel Houser Propes; his 2 daughters, Karyn Oliver and husband Tim, of Polkville, and Janice Scoggins and husband Andrew, of Golden Valley; his son, Jeff Propes, of the home; his 3 grandchildren, Gilbert Queen and wife Lynthia of Casar, Eric Queen, and Melissa Scoggins Todd and husband Brandon, all of Golden Valley; there are 8 great grandchildren, Destiny, Kirsten, and Isaiah, all of Casar, and Violett, Blakely, Brantley, Brayden, and Keenan, all of Golden Valley.

The Funeral will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Golden Valley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kevin Towery will officiate. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Visitation will be from 5 pm until 7 pm Wednesday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service.
