Arrests in Kinston dog fight

KINSTON — Many arrests have been made and more than a dozen warrants have been issued in connection with a dog fighting incident.

On Oct. 21, officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to 403 Sherman St. after receiving a complaint about dog fighting. Upon arrival, officers located two injured dogs on the property and a wooden dog fighting ring. According to reports, a crowd of people fled into the woods when approached by officers.

Officers arrested Hal Tyler Jr. for felonious dog fighting at the scene and later arrested Juan Derico Rufus in connection with the incident.

Thursday, Kvin Walters of Goldsboro was arrested at the Kinston Police Department for felony dog fighting, obtaining property by false pretense and obstruction of justice. He was placed in the Lenoir County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.

Another individual, Earnest Sutton Jr. of Kinston, was arrested Friday for felony dog fighting.

Friday, the Kinston Police Department named 15 more individuals suspected of being involved in dog fighting. Warrants have been issued for the arrest of:

Faronta Thompson of Goldsboro for felony dog fighting

Ryan Gross of Goldsboro for felony dog fighting
Ronnie Koonce of Kinston for felony dog fighting
Anthony Hall of Pink Hill for felony dog fighting
Brandon Kelly of Dover for felony dog fighting

Angela King of Goldsboro for felony dog fighting
Briana Flanagan of Mount Olive for felony dog fighting
Jalisa Bryant of Trenton for felony dog fighting

The case is still under investigation and the dogs involved are being kept at an undisclosed location for safe keeping.
