TRYON, N.C. — The National Weather Service surveyed more damage confirmed four tornadoes struck our area of the Carolinas during Sunday’s strong storms. NWS crews followed up with investigations in Tryon and Polk, Cleveland, Burke, and Caldwell counties.
Survey crews determined that damage to the Landrum area near the N.C. state line was caused by straight line winds. Other preliminary results determined an EF0 tornado touched down near Polkville in Cleveland County, moving north into Burke County, and another EF1 tornado was confirmed near Connelly Springs in Burke County.
The NWS also confirmed an EF1 tornado that touched down on Lake Lanier in Greenville County, lifted and touched down again in Tryon in Polk County. A fourth tornado was confirmed in Caldwell County as an EF1 with wind speeds of 95 mph. A final assessment is expected this week.
