Kimberly Cline Callahan, age 57,wife of Tim Callahan of Ellenboro, North Carolina died at her home on Saturday, October 7, 2017 surrounded by her family. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced Sunday by The Padgett and King Mortuary & Crematory.


Homer Guffey, age 79, of Forest City, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at his residence.

Born May 3, 1938 to the late Mack Guffey and Annie Mae Crisson Guffey, he was the widower of Iva Tipton Guffey.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the Grace Chapel Foursquare Church of Forest City with Reverend Ricky Poteat officiating. Interment will follow in the Spindale City Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Terance M. “Terry” “Uncle Mike” Powers, age 78, of Rutherfordton, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at his residence.

Born February 1, 1939 in New Haven County, Connecticut, he was a son to the late Michael Powers and Theresa Bohan Powers. Terry had a gift of humor. He had the ability to make people laugh and forget their troubles. He loved his family so much and his dogs were like his kids. He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and worshiped the Lord by going outside and looking up to Heaven. He was a United States Marine veteran and served during Vietnam.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by fourteen siblings.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of twenty-two years, Bertille Blake Powers; three daughters, Michele Sorrensen, Paula Lupole, Shannon Powers; one son, George Blake; one brother, Chris Powers; and one sister, Anne Farren. He is also survived by four grandchildren; four nieces; one nephew; and his furbabies.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2017 at Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ernie Cole officiating. Military honors will be provided by Rutherford County Honor Guard.

Interment will be private and at a later date.

Mrs. Maxine Romney, 86, of Ellenboro, died Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Hospice House, Forest City.

James Denton Anderson, age 71 , of Rutherfordton, died Friday, October 6, 2017, at Willow Ridge Rehabilitation & Living Center.

He was the son of the late Kirby Anderson and late Lottie Anderson.

James was a native of Rutherford County and a truck driver.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Jimmy Todd Anderson and a sister Louise Anderson.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at McMahan’s Funeral Home.

The Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at McMahan’s Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend John Greene and David Tomblin officiating. Interment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.


Ethel Russell Johnson, age 90, of Rutherfordton, died Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Willow Ridge Rehabilitation & Living Center.

She was the daughter of the late Bob Russell and the late Macy Pritchard Russell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James Robert Johnson Sr.; brothers Hubert Russell, Grady Russell, Jessie Russell and Horace Russell and a sister Sue Holbert.

Ethel was a native of Polk County and a member of Second Baptist Church

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Saturday, October 7, 2017 at McMahan’s Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, October 8, 2017 at McMahan’s Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. Keith Stephenson and Reverend Johnny McCarty officiating.

SPARTANBURG – Mr. Robert Thomas Craig, 44, passed away at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center on Tuesday,October 3, 2017.
