NEBO — The suspicious death of a 28-year-old Nebo man in January is now being investigated as a homicide, and detectives need the public’s help with information.
At 4:25 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, deputies responded to 152 Walker Road in Nebo and found 28-year-old John Christopher Hubbard, of 94 Clay Rock Drive in Nebo, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The incident occurred at the home of Hubbard’s friend, Justin Ryan Fowler.
Capt. Shanon Smith of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said the two men were outside in the yard when Hubbard was shot. It was reported as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“Based upon our investigation so far, we believe it’s suspicious in nature, and we are treating it as a homicide,” Smith stated. “We do not feel like it was a self-inflicted injury.”
