Kathryn Melton Parton, age 93, entered into Heaven peacefully on August 10, 2017 at Hospice House following a brief illness. Growing up in Spindale, she is the daughter of James Crawford and Anna Greene Melton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Jimmie Parton, a daughter Melissa Parton Robbins Thompson and a sister Hannah Coffey Baynard.

Kathryn graduated from R-S Central High School Class of 1941. She kept in touch with classmates and organized many class reunions. She attended Business College in Charlotte and worked as a secretary for Blackman’s Finance Company in Rutherfordton. During this time, she dated Jim who happened to work across the street at a gas station.

Kathryn grew up in Spencer Baptist Church where she was baptized. She loved her church and was very active teaching the 7 year olds Sunday School for 27 years. She enjoyed music and was an adult choir member, Children’s Choir Sponser, member of the Kitchen Band and traveled with the Senior Citizens. Kathryn enjoyed life and serving her Lord in every aspect. She was known for her warm, vivacious, and giving personality, always laughing and smiling. She was a friend to many. Other activities included organizing the Spindale Youth Cheerleaders. Kathryn also worked at The Gingerbread House Daycare. Loving children, she later kept preschoolers at home. Her hobbies included music, poetry, ceramics,  her pets, helping others, & singing in nursing homes sometimes dressing as a clown to entertain.

In addition to being a loving and devoted wife, she was a wonderful mother. Often putting her family before herself, she sacrificed much for their wellbeing. Jim was her partner and the love of her life. In later years, she enjoyed traveling with him and her precious sister, Hannah and her husband. Through many difficult times, she relied on strength from God to carry her through.

She is survived by her daughters Anna Parton and Marsha Lane; grandchildren Eric and Kathy Cole, Sarah and Laura Robbins and Calton Thompson, IV; great grandchild Ashley Cole; special friends Rev. Bob and Kay Hollifield; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, August 14, 2017 at Spencer Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 PM Monday in the Family Life Center. A private burial will be held at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Crowe’s Mortuary is assisting the family of Kathryn Melton Parton.


Deanya B. Pruett, age 86, formerly of Boiling Springs, NC, passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 at the Oakland Living Center in Rutherfordton.

Born August 26, 1930 in Catawba County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Colin and Zeta Bridges. She worked for Dover Mills for many years and was a past member of Race Path Baptist Church. Deanya loved traveling and was an excellent seamstress.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of over thirty years, Forrest Donald McSwain and her second husband of thirty-five years, Donald Pruett; one daughter, Donna McSwain Wyatt and two brothers, Jim Bridges and Larry Bridges.

Those left to cherish her memory include one brother, John “Pete” Bridges and wife, Barbara of Ellenboro; sister, Peggy Smith of Shelby; two grandchildren, Michelle Arrowood and husband, Chad of Forest City and Shawn Wyatt and wife, Danielle of Tennessee; four great-grandchildren, Sophia Arrowood, Makayla Wyatt, Haley Wyatt and Tyler Wyatt.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017 at Cleveland Memorial Park with Reverend Lanny J. Funchess officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.

Georlene Holland, age 75, of Ellenboro, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.

Born February 19, 1942 in Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Hoyte Bailey and Hazel Dobbins Bailey. Georlene was a homemaker and a faithful member of Goodes Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling and visiting new places and especially loved her family. Her life’s joy was taking care of her husband, her children and her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of fifty-nine years, Max Holland; two daughters, Lisa Blanton and husband, Dwayne of Rutherfordton and Mary Jo Teseniar and husband, Don of Sandy Mush; two sons, Randy Holland and wife, Gloria of Shelby and Alan Holland and wife, Sharon of Caroleen; two brothers, Jimmy Bailey and wife, Pat of Columbus, NC and Phil Bailey of Bostic. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Steven Blanton, Miranda Beck (John), Victoria Belue (Tony), Caroline Toney (Matthew), Joshua Holland, Linda Holland, Melissa Maxwell (Eric), A.J. Holland (Mary), Megan Holland, Luke Holland and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at the Goodes Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Chad Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. At other times they will be gathered at 574 Walker Store Road, Ellenboro.

Mr. Carmen Monroe Ramsey, 92, of Sunshine, went home to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, August 11, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ola Mae White Ramsey. He was the son of the late Sidney Lee Ramsey and Fannie Campbell Ramsey, and was also preceded in death by his 10 brothers and sisters and was the last of his immediate family.
Carmen worked alongside his family at Ramsey’s Hardwood Mill until he was 83 years old, and was also a successful farmer, known for giving vegetables and watermelons to everyone.
First and foremost he was a humble servant of God and exceptional father, loved by everyone. He was a charter member of Cooper Springs Congregational Holiness Church where he was a Deacon and longtime cemetery caretaker.
Carmen leaves behind his five children, his daughters Dallas Powell of Dysartsville, Jennie Mae Smith and husband Wess, of Sunshine, and Glenda Cook and husband Noel, of Casar; his sons, Monroe Carmen Ramsey and wife Alesia, of Sunshine, and Gilbert Ramsey of Rutherfordton; he also has to cherish his memory, 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
The Funeral will be conducted at 2:00 pm Monday, August 14, 2017 at Cooper Springs Congregational Holiness Church. The Rev. Monty Monteith will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Visitation will be from 4 pm until 6:30 pm Sunday at Cooper Springs Congregational Holiness Church.

Doris M. Walker, age 90 of Forest City died Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced on Monday by The Padgett and King Mortuary & Crematory.


Mr. Kenneth Dale Bridges, 58, of Ellenboro, died Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Hospice House, Forest City.
He was the son of Morris J. Bridges of Ellenboro and the late Joann Putnam Bridges.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Erin Bridges and Megan Bridges of Ellenboro; his son, Austin Bridges of Ellenboro; their mother, Cynthia Gibson Bridges of Ellenboro; and his 2 sisters, Pamela D. Harris and husband Frank, of Matthews, and Kim Shires of Ellenboro.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Walls Baptist Church. The Rev. David Philbeck will officiate.
The Visitation will be from 10 am until 11 am Tuesday in the church prior to the service.

Charles Adams, age 71, of the Six Points Community formerly of Laurens, SC passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 at his residence.

Born March 17, 1946 in Laurens County, SC, he was a son of the late Conway Madison Adams and Faye Broome Thomas. Johnny was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated Johnny’s Small Engine Repair for many years before retirement. Johnny was a huge sports fan and enjoyed coaching little league baseball in Cliffside and was an avid Atlanta Braves, Duke and South Carolina Gamecock Basketball fan. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR. He was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Cain Adams and a sister, Susan Adams.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife and companion, Sara Toney; two sisters, Jean Adams Bible and husband, Harry of Laurens and Alice Adams Mahon of Hickory Tavern, SC; one brother, Gordon Ray Adams and wife, Wanda of Gray Court, SC; three daughters, Linda Smith of Simpsonville, SC, Sharon Seacrest and husband, Chad of Henrietta and Tina Brendle and husband, John of Bryson City, NC. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Robertson Creek Free Will Baptist Church.

Ruth Turner Shirlen passed into heaven on August 11, 2017. She was the daughter of the late William Melton and Ellie Beatrice Haney Geoff and was preceded in death by William L. Turner, James Shirlen and Willie Owens.

Ruth was a long time resident of Spindale, a native of Gaston County and was a member of Adaville Baptist Church.

A woman of great faith, impeccable character, sweet charm and boundless energy; and a loving steadfast mother to Michael (Judi) Turner, Elaine (William) Boone, Sheliah Owens, Bennett (Robin) Turner, Timothy (Suellen) Turner and Sarah (Stuart) Saunders.

“Mom” to grandchildren William Boone Jr. and Kristi Robinson, “Nana” to Melody M. Owens, Shane Owens and Nathan Saunders; she had the great fortune of three great grandchildren: Bradley and Victoria Boone and Libby Mitchell.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 PM on Tuesday August 15, 2017 at Crowe’s Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Cobb officiating. The family will receive friends from 11-12 PM prior to the service. Burial will be private at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Her place in our hearts will never be diminished.
