The original proposal by the Town Manager to Town Council was a $210,000 deficit, a forced recycle program for every citizen + $50/household to pay for the new containers, a $0.015 increased tax rate to cover the evaluation property error by the County and adding a full time planner for $62,000 per year.

With two meetings and 5 1/2 hours into the workshop, ten people sat quietly as the Finance Director inputted numbers, such a waste of time for the elected officials. It should be noted that the last hour was spent trying to come up within $20,000 for the 1st balanced budget review! However, had Staff checked off all their revenue streams, they would have noticed that revenue from the Sewer Enterprise Fund was left out! For the past 3-4 years, @ $32,000 was reimbursed to the Town by the Fund for work done by Public Works folks, but this year in only @ $20K.

It appears that Citizens will be required to pay for this recycle program that is NOT MANDATED BY THE COUNTY! The Mayor is up for reelection next year, so when you make your last payment in June for the Recycle Bins, make these folks accountable for their actions.

Since The Daily Courier will not report the news of these contentious budget meetings, the only way to get information is to attend, the next will be June 5th.

Here’s a general comment for the council- Get a clue. Really. Be gracious and respectful of the businesses that are downtown. Be fair and treat all of them the same. Quit wasting money on festivals that are mediocre at best.

What a lovely experience to hear such talented musicians gifting us with their playing, the result of hours and hours of their lives to bring this music alive. To say thank you seems quite inadequate. But, I will say it anyway. Thank you all for your devotion!

I was out of town and could not attend, but certainly support with enthusiasm the symphony program and my cellist friend whose musical growth is reflected in her symphony participation. I thank Ms Gayle for her opinion piece and her positive attitude toward the efforts of all concerned. What a feat of faith is the concept of a symphony in Rutherford County. Hooray times three!
