Woman who broke into actress Kelly McGillis’ home is sentenced

Kelly McGillis is ushered into the Henderson County Courthouse.

HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C.  — Laurence Dorn will serve 18-months supervised probation after a jury found her guilty Wednesday of misdemeanor breaking and entering into actress Kelly McGillis’ Henderson County home in June 2016. There wasn’t convincing evidence for the jury in charges that she wanted to harm McGillis.

According to investigators, Dorn said she wanted to meet the actress from “Top Gun.” Investigators found McGillis’ picture photoshopped onto an archery-like target and a wanted dead or alive poster on Dorn’s laptop.

One juror said the decision came down to intent.

“We all agreed she broke into the house with the intention of getting inside the house. But we could not prove without a shadow of a doubt that she entered the house to intentionally bodily harm Mrs. McGillis.”
