Obituaries – May 16, 2017

Mrs. Amy Melton Warlick, 29, of Bostic, died Monday, May 15, 2017 at her residence.

She was the daughter of Gary and Lisa Melton of Bostic, and was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Max Gardner Burgess. Amy owned and operated PAWSitively Perfect Dog Spa and worked for many years at Foothills Animal Clinic. She was a member of Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church and a 2005 graduate of East Rutherford High School.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Jeremy Warlick; her sons, Easton Mathew Warlick and Graham Gardner Warlick; her sister, Stacy Chapman and husband Greg, of Bostic; her maternal grandmother, Helen Beason Burgess of Avondale; her paternal grandparents, David and Thelma Melton of Bostic; and her nieces and nephews, Alexis Chapman, Eli Chapman, Hunter Chapman, Mikila Chapman, Madison Chapman, Ridge Warlick, Karson Hodge, and Houston Hodge.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 6:00 pm Friday, May 19, 2017 at Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Robert Carnell will officiate.

Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends in the Family Life Center of the church.

>In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for Amy will be organized for Easton and Graham, further arrangements on that fund will be announced on Wednesday.

Harold John Fowler (Red, Johnny) went to his heavenly home May 14, 2017. He served four years in the Air Force, was a Mecklenburg County Patrolman for sixteen years and a deputy with the Sheriff’s Department before retiring as Sargent after ten years.

He loved his church, CBA, Blue Knights, Sons of Confederate Veterans, HOGS, Norsemen, and his dog Teddy.

He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Sandra; sons John of Monroe, GA and William of Charlotte; grandchildren Colt and Brooke of Charlotte; sister, Connie Brown of Denton, and many other relatives and friends. He liked to keep people happy.

A celebration of life will be held 5PM Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Campfield Memorial Baptist Church, 369 Campfield Church Road, Ellenboro, 28040 with the visitation being held at 4PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Campfield Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund.

Crowes Mortuary is assisting the Fowler family.


Forest City – Mr. Gary Graham Ledford, age 60 passed away at Hospice House Rutherford County on May 14, 2017.

Arrangements are incomplete and entrusted to Robert S Morgan Jr Funeral Service Licensee LLC of Fallston.






Tony Huffman, age 69, of Ellenboro, NC, died Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Charles George VA Medical Center.

Born November 11, 1947 in Burke County, he is the son of Jane Talent Stafford who resides in Taylorsville, NC and the late Walter Huffman, Sr. He was a graduate of George Hildebran High School, class of 1966 and also attended Gardner-Webb University and Isothermal Community College. Tony was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He also served in the Army National Guard and the Army Reserves. Tony drove a truck for Overnight Trucking for many years and was a member of the Alexander United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and getting to know people.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step-father, John Stafford and a sister, Judy Wilderdyke.

Besides his mother, those left to cherish his memory include his wife of twenty-nine years, Jackie Mode Huffman; son, Anthony Huffman and wife, Tanya of Six Points; step-son, Jody Splawn and wife, Deanne of Rutherfordton; sister, Ruby Sherrick of Taylorsville and two brothers, Walter Huffman, Jr. and wife, Linda and Johnny Huffman all of George Hildebran, NC. He is also survived by a grandson, Chase Splawn; a number of nieces and nephews which includes two special nieces, Hannah and Savannah Grant.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the Alexander United Methodist Church with Dr. Reverend James Powell officiating along with lay leaders, Robert Mauney and Ron Powell. Interment will follow in the Alexander Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the church.

Memorial donations are respectfully requested to the Alexander UMC, P.O. Box 1727, Forest City, NC  28043.

Michael Reeves, age 59, of Cliffside, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.

Born April 9, 1958 in Spartanburg County, SC, he was a son to the late Larry Reeves and Grace Minnie Johnson Luck.  Michael’s interests included music and working on electronics. He also enjoyed making people laugh and taking care of children. Michael was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father, Clifton Luck and a sister, June Autry.

Those left to cherish his memory include one brother, Gary Reeves and wife, Sheila of Hickory and a sister, Teresa Long of Cliffside; four nieces, Crystal Reeves, Amanda Reeves, Brooke Moore, Cathy Levesque and two nephews, Philip Foster and Andrew Autry. He is also survived by a number of great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Gary Reeves and Reverend Ralph Boyds officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are respectfully requested to Teresa Long, 831 Hames Ridge Road, Mooresboro, NC 28114 to help with funeral costs.
